Ancient Civilizations
Students ages 10-12 with spend the year exploring the stories of gods and goddesses from the pyramid building cultures around the ancient world. Who were these people and how did they live? What were their inventions? What were their sacred stories?
Botany, Geography, and Hand Drawn Geometry
Students will explore the geography of the world as they learn about the ancient people. Mountains, rivers, lakes, and plains are all important parts of the stories of the ancient peoples. This year includes a deeper study of North American geography and Botany as well as an exploration of hand drawn geometric forms in preparation for using the compass and straight edge the following year.
Exploring the 5th/6th Grade curriculum
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
12:30pm – 2:00pm Eastern
Academically this age student is ready to be challenged. Students will have the opportunity to test themselves by writing short stories from their imaginations, work math problems that help the ancients get a fair deal, craft a badge that symbolizes their studies, and give presentations to the class regarding their own individual research.
Most work will be completed in class. Reading for research writing will be down on their own time.

🎨 A Typical Main Lesson Rhythm
Each class follows a carefully designed flow that honors the natural unfolding of attention and creativity:
🎵 Closing Verse or Song
We say farewell with a verse or song, leaving your child with a feeling of completion and warmth.
🌞 Welcome & Warm-Up
We begin with a morning verse, seasonal songs, movement, simple dances, recorder playing, and spoken poetry. This grounding rhythm connects children to the day, the group, and themselves.
✂️ Review Through Free Rendering
Children retell or reflect on the previous lesson by creating images with construction paper—a playful and expressive method I call Free Rendering. It allows ideas to be revisited through form and color.
🌱 Presentation of the New Concept
I introduce a new story, skill, or idea, often through rich images, storytelling, or demonstration.
🧠 Practice
We explore the new material through guided exercises, oral work, movement, or artistic expression.
🔁 Skill Refinement
Children revisit and strengthen a previously learned skill to deepen retention and confidence.
📖 Main Lesson Book Creation
We end the core portion of our lesson by crafting a beautiful main lesson book page—a personal record of what has been learned, written and illustrated by the child.
📚 Story Time
A closing story nourishes the imagination and ties the lesson into a meaningful narrative.
